Catch's Deadliest Star Nick McGlashan Dies

JAKARTA - The star of the reality series Deadliest Catch, Nick McGlashan passed away in Nashville. McGlashan is 33 years old.

The news of McGlashan's death was conveyed by Davidson County Medical Examiner to CNN, Monday. So far, there is no explanation regarding the cause of death.

"Our deepest sympathies go to Nick's loved ones during this difficult time," Discovery, the home of the network series Nick's starring in, released a statement to CNN.

"Nick comes from a long lineage and is known for his deep knowledge. He also has a great sense of humor even in the toughest of conditions. He will be missed by everyone who knows him."

Born in Alaska to a veteran commercial fisherman, McGlashan started working on a boat when he was 13 years old.

According to his biography on the Discovery Go website, McGlashan is a seventh-generation fisherman who grew up not far from Dutch Harbor on the island of Akutan, Alaska.

"It is named after his great uncle Nick McGlashan, who worked on the first ship that is said to have started the US crab industry, the F / V Deep Sea, which was built in 1947," the biography reads. "Nick's two aunts also work in the same industry; one of them was lost at sea when the ship sank in 1986."

McGlashan had experienced dependence on alcohol, heroin and methamphetamine. He overdosed three times and was briefly expelled during season 13 of the Deadliest Catch series.

To overcome his addiction, he underwent rehabilitation in September 2016 until he was finally declared cured.

McGlashan is one of several cast members who have died. One of them was sailor Mahlon Reyes, who died at the age of 38 in August after suffering a heart attack.

Deadliest Catch tells the life of a crew member who works on a fishing boat in the Bering Sea. McGlashan worked as the deck boss on Deadliest Catch and has appeared in the series since 2013.
