JAKARTA - Studio Ghibli has released a new trailer for Earwig and the Witch, which is the first CGI film under Ghibli.

Directed by Goro Miyazaki, Earwig and the Witch tells the story of Earwig growing up in an orphanage. Once upon a time, he was adopted by someone who looked good.

As it turns out, the woman who adopted Earwig was a selfish witch. Earwig's life begins to be organized and Earwig cannot interact with his friends.

Until one day, Earwig finds a mysterious song that can lead him to meet the family he has been dreaming of. Earwig also looks for a way to escape the witch who adopted him.

This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones and is Studio Ghibli's latest release after producing the film When Marnie Was There in 2014.

In the international version, Earwig and the Witch will be voiced by a number of big names such as Richard E. Grant, Dan Stevens, and Grammy-winning singer, Kacey Musgraves.

Earlier, local actress Sherina Munaf announced her musical involvement in the film Earwig and the Witch.

The film will open on Japanese television channel NHK on December 30 but to compete for the awards, Earwig and the Witch will hit theaters from early 2021.
