320 Residents Of The Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Bali Can Get Christmas Day Remissions

JAKARTA - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Bali followed up on a letter from the Director General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regarding the granting of special remissions for Christmas Day to 320 correctional inmates in 11 correctional institutions and state detention centers throughout Bali.

"Giving remission or reducing the criminal period is the right of every inmate who is considered to meet the criteria and conditions as stipulated in Article 14 point 1a of Law Number 12/1995 concerning Corrections," said Head of the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, Anggiat Napitupulu, as quoted from a written broadcast received in Denpasar, Bali, Sunday, December 25.

"Special remission is a reduction in the sentence given to prisoners and children (who serve) criminal penalties on religious holidays held by (convicts or inmates). The stipulation is, if a religion has more than one religious holiday in a year, then the one chosen is a big day that is most inspired by those who are adherents of the religion," he said.

Quoted from ANTARA, he conveyed that the Kerobokan Prison in Badung Regency was the correctional institution in Bali whose inmates received the most remission, namely 130 people, followed by the Bangli Narcotics Prison as many as 88 people, LP Perempuan Kerobokan 23 inmates.

Remissions were also given to 20 inmates at the Bangli Rutan, then in the Karangasem Prison there were 16 inmates who received special remissions for Christmas Day, at the Gianyar Rutan there were 12 inmates, in Tabanan LP there were nine inmates, LP Singaraja there were seven inmates, Rutan Klungkung eight inmates, Rutan Negara six inmates, and LPKA Karangasem one inmate.

Of the 320 remissions given, eight inmates were immediately released, of which four were assisted by the Kerobokan Prison, one was fostered / inmate at the Bangli Narcotics Prison, one was assisted by the Karangasem Prison, and two were inmates of the Gianyar Detention Center.

"Of course, this remission is given to inmates who have met the criteria and provisions of the applicable laws and regulations during the coaching period in correctional institutions," said Napitupulu.

He added that his party through the Correctional Division had coordinated with prisons and related detention centers to re-examine the criteria and conditions that prisoners had to meet before they received remission.
