Melanie C's Story Working With Transgenders And Non-binary Dancers

JAKARTA - Melanie C reflects on the huge impact working with transgender women and non-binary artists has on her.

The Spice Girls toured the world with the group Sink the Pink during WorldPride NYC 2019, and also released a collaboration single with them, titled High Heels.

She tells the Homo Sapiens podcast that the experience helped her find "a new level of self-acceptance, get to know waria, and some of my dancers are non-binary too."

"It was a really big education for me," said Melanie C. "I feel very emotional when I talk about it."

The singer admitted that at first he felt intimidated.

"I've seen all these waria, everyone looks fierce. I thought, wow this is so scary," he said.

However, as soon as she met them, she felt "a great feeling of warmth, love, and inclusiveness" and "fell in love with them immediately."

Melanie C has long been an outspoken supporter of the transgender community and says she is "very proud" to be a transgender ally.

Reminiscing about the Spice Girls, she said: "I've always known that the Spice Girls were very much loved by the LGBTQ + community, but I never took responsibility for it personally."
