Marilyn Monroe's Role In Blonde, Ana De Armas: This Film Changes My Life

JAKARTA - Film player Ana De Armas shared her impressions and challenges when playing Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe for her latest film, Bunde, by Andrew Dominik, which premiered at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival.

"I don't really know about Marilyn. I'm familiar with some of the films, but for me it is a very large discovery and learning process," said de Armas as quoted by the Associated Press via ANTARA, Friday, September 9.

"For me, it's about understanding, empathizing, and connecting with him, the pain, and the trauma," said De Armas.

"If you put (the persona) a movie star (Monroe) aside, she's just a woman, just like me. Meanwhile. It was a project I knew I had to let myself open up and go to places I knew would be uncomfortable, dark, and vulnerable to me."

The actress who was born in Havana, Cuba added, although this film is challenging, it also means a lot to him.

"I'm making this film to encourage myself... to get other people to change their minds about me," he said in tears. "This film changed my life."

For director Andrew Dominik, Blonde will not be a biography film, but a portrait of the experience that explores the souls of Marilyn Monroe and total Jeane. De Armas' election to play Monroe, he said, made the film come to life.

"It feels like love at first sight," said Dominik.

The nearly three-hour film is based on biography fiction by Joyce Carol Oates and reviews Hollywood's public and personal life, from her troubled childhood as Jeane's total celebrity to her global fame as Marilyn Monroe.

It also discussed the story and relationship with the mother (Julianne Nicholson) until her marriage to Joe DiMaggio (Bobby Cannavale) and Arthur Miller (Adrien result).

Meanwhile, Blonde has become one of the much-awaited films this year. In addition to being screened in Venice and several selected cinema screens on September 16, the film is scheduled to air exclusively on the Netflix streaming platform on September 23.
