JAKARTA - The star of the Netflix series Squid Game, Lee Jung Jae said he was very grateful to be able to make his debut as a director and screenwriter for the film Hunt, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

"I am very grateful that I made my directorial debut at a time when Korean culture is rising today," said Lee Jung-jae, quoted by Reuters on Monday, May 23.

"Hunt" is an action-packed film that tells the story of two South Korean spies who are tasked with digging up North Korean secret information. Apart from directing and writing the screenplay, Lee Jung-jae will also play one of the spies.

Lee Jung-jae said his nearly three-decade career in acting was helpful when he was trying to step up behind the scenes.

"I've acted in many different genres and I can remember scenes that were difficult to film or that didn't come out the way I expected," said Lee Jung Jae as quoted by ANTARA.

"I try to remember those scenes when I'm writing the script to make sure I can direct as effectively as possible," he continued.

He also hopes to meet more international audiences and fans with his films and other content.

However, even though he is now starting to step up as a director, Lee Jung Jae said he still likes his role as an actor. "I'm an actor. That's my identity. So, I like acting the most," he said.
