JAKARTA - Jana Hocking, radio broadcaster from Australia, revealed five reasons why women should not date an athlete. He spoke based on his own experience of being a WAG.

Growing up, most girls have dreamed of dating professional sportsmen. Cool guy with athletic body and social status, what's not to like?

But according to Jana, who was once a WAG, the reality is not like that. This 36-year-old woman revealed her experience in a relationship with a footballer and rugby star.

He told news.com.au : "Growing up in a sporty family, I was invited to see my brothers running on the field on weekends.

"Then one day everything changed. I started looking at my brother's teammates from a different point of view.

"It was around the age when boys' voices were funny. Deeper. Where did those muscles come from? Why do I feel shivers?"

"What a cliché. Yes, puberty makes me shallow," Jana joked.

It wasn't until Jana grew up and started a career in the media that she came into contact with many professional athletes.

"They're going to be snorting, I'll be giggling, and before you know it, we're going out on a date," Jana added.

The emcee remembers a time she dated a guy in the industry who taught her that professional athletes weren't for her.

"Like anyone quite famous, footballers are the source of a lot of gossip. I mean, this case only applies to me.

"In fact, I would say they were being targeted. The less enjoyable part of being an athlete partner is not knowing who, or what, to believe."

1. He's not the only person the athlete is interested in

Of course, dating someone with a famous athlete means that there are tons of other women who want their attention.

2. You may have to go to their match

Being a WAG means you have to go out and support them while they work. If you don't really like sports, this can be a problem.

3. You are not the only person who is dating them

Since they are athletes, they will probably be in the headlines almost every week. They also may not hold back when talking about women in interviews.

4. Be prepared to receive direct messages from other women

Talking about the rugby players he has dated, the host explained: "As it turns out, he is a guy that a lot of women like.

"He was in Canberra for a match and a girl sent me a Facebook message saying that she had been in contact with him over the weekend."

5. Your self-esteem may take a hit

Be prepared for people who say 'how lucky you are to date a professional athlete.'

Some people may never think you are beautiful / worthy enough, which can hurt your self-confidence.
