JAKARTA - The sequel to James Cameron's Avatar is confirmed for release this year. The director announced the title Avatar at Cinemacon 2022.
Avatar: The Way of Water will be the official title of the sequel to the Disney film. Cameron explained that this film will meet the expectations of audiences who have been waiting for the continuation of Pandora's story for years.
"I know it's been a difficult two years. I want you to hear from me that I am here working with you, you are our partners," James Cameron quoted Indiewire as saying.
"The best thing we do is deliver content that must be seen through cinema," Cameron said.
"When we look at the whole, the four (Avatar) films will link together to make an amazing saga," said producer Jon Landau.
Cameron also announced that the premiere trailer will be exclusively shown before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness begins.
Avatar 2 tells the story of the fictional planet Pandora and the hardships of Jake Sully's (Sam Worthington) family.
Some of the original players such as Worthington and Zoe Saldana were confirmed again. In addition, Avatar 2 also stars Michelle Yeoh and Kate Winslet who reunited with Cameron after the Titanic.
To galvanize interest, 2009's Avatar will hit theaters on September 23. Avatar: The Way of Water can be seen in theaters from December 16, 2022.
