JAKARTA - Director Fajar Nugros presents a new comedy-drama film titled Srimulat: Hil the Mustahal. This film is a biopic about the first comedy group in Indonesia.

Produced by MNC Pictures and IDN Pictures, Fajar Nugros wants to introduce Srimulat to the current generation. The story will focus on the time when Srimulat's career began to expand to the capital and became the first comedy group to appear on national television.

"We researched scientific writings very long and then met the (original) characters, interviewed their families, talked to journalists who were hanging out at Taman Ria and they gave facts that could be presented," said Fajar Nugros in Jakarta on Friday, April 22.

Fajar Nugros hopes that with this film, the public, especially the current generation, can get to know the figure of Srimulat who is a legend of Indonesian comedy.

“We know the Srimulat character who lives on television. So, we brought this popular character to 1981 because we wanted to introduce Srimulat to what it is," said Fajar Nugros.

"I don't know which (source) was used in the film. I met with Mr. Kadir, Mas Tessy, and others but suddenly there was a common thread there," he explained.

Srimulat's first film has 11 main characters, namely Gepeng (Bio One), Basuki (Elang El Gibran), Timbul (Dimas Anggara), Tarzan (Ibnu Jamil), Asmuni (Teuku Rifnu Wikana), Tessy (Erick Estrada), Nunung (Zulfa Maharani), Paul (Morgan Oey), Ana (Naimma Aljufri), Teguh (Rukman Rosadi), and Djujuk (Erika Carlina).

“This is a comedy, not a Warkop comedy. Not a comedy comedy. In the film they do not necessarily become the Srimulat. This film tells the story of Srimulat's struggles when they were asked to appear in Indonesian for the first time," said Fajar Nugros.

Srimulat: Hil the Mustahal tells the journey of the first comedy group to appear on television. Not only comedy, the characters also have personal conflicts that have an impact on Srimulat in the future.

The film Srimulat: Hil Yang Mustahal by Fajar Nugros will be released in theaters starting May 19, 2022.
