JAKARTA - George Lynch has teamed up again with former Dokken bandmate Jeff Pilson for a new studio recording set containing a lineup of pop songs that are turned into powerful metal tracks.

The follow-up to Heavy Hitters (2020), tentatively titled Heavy Hitters 2, will be released later this year through Deadline Music, a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records, Inc.

In a recent interview with Tone-Talk, Lynch confirmed that Heavy Hitters 2 will contain 11 songs, including a cover of Sam Smith's Stay With Me and an original Christmas carol.

"Basically, what we did was we took the 'stupid' songs from the Rolling Stones and Crosby, Stills & Nash and people like that, but we fixed it. Now we're doing it right, like it was meant to be in the first place." George said about how they approach the material they cover, while being sarcastic.

"We did a really fun cover album. We experimented a bit. So we did something else. And I don't know when this album will come out. But it will probably be finished in the next few months," Pilson chimed in.

"We just made the seventh song. But we're only working on the music. We haven't recorded vocals yet. And there's only some bass filling. Brian Tichy will add drums once we're done with 11 songs," the bassist explained about how far along the recording process is now. .

Meanwhile, Heavy Hitters, which was released last year, featured guest acts from Marq Torien of Bulletboys, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Wil Martin of Earshot and as mentioned above, Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne).

The album contains Lynch and Pilson's interpretations of Rufus and Chaka Khan's You Got The Love, Carole King's I Feel The Earth, Duran Duran's Ordinary World, and Madonna's Music.

Then there's Apologize from Onerepublic and Timbaland, Nowhere To Run (Martha Reeves and The Vandellas), Kiss (Prince), It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) from REM, and Champagne Supernova by Oasis.
