Watching The Legendary Korean Movie Oldboy Restored In 4K, Questions The Importance Of Revenge

JAKARTA - Often we do not realize the attitude we do makes people hurt, to the point of holding grudges. Questioning the revenge that must be paid can take up most of human life. This is a story in the South Korean film by Director Park Chan-wook titled Olboy.

This film can be seen at the CGV cinema network throughout Indonesia. The restoration version of the film in 4K will be released on November 5, 2021.

"The legend returns to the big screen. Park Chan-wook's masterpiece, #Oldboy restoration 4K will air starting Friday, November 5, 2021," tweeted CBI Pictures as the distributor on its official social media account.

Oldboy is the second film in The Vengeance Trilogy. This film tells the story of Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), who takes revenge after being imprisoned for 15 years without knowing the reason.

While watching television, he realized that he had been framed for the murder of his wife. This made Oh Dae-su for years determined to find the figure of his mysterious enemy. He then got his first clue when a homeless man gave him a cell phone and wallet full of cash. The search began.

Besides Choi Min-sik, Oldboy also stars Yoo Ji-tae, Kang Hye-jung, Kim Byung-ok, and Oh Dal-su.

As reported by the Korean Film Council, Oldboy is an adult-only film that premiered on November 21, 2003. The film sold 311,165 tickets, or about US$1.7 million.

The film has also won many awards, including Best Film, Best Foreign Film, and Best Director, in a number of international events.

Some of them are the Asia Pacific Film Festival, Blue Dragon Film Awards, Grand Prix Cannes Film Festival, Director's Cut Awards, Grand Bell Awards, Hong Kong Film Awards, and many more.

The Korean film, Oldboy, was later made into a Hollywood version with the same title directed by Spike Lee and aired in 2013. The Hollywood version stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley.
