JAKARTA - Living a healthy lifestyle is not only about maintaining a diet and exercise routine, but can also be realized through social concern, one of which is blood donation.
In addition to helping others, this activity also provides benefits for the health of donors, such as maintaining blood balance and monitoring body conditions. Therefore, blood donation is increasingly relevant to be part of a more caring and empathetic modern lifestyle.
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Palembang City, South Sumatra, invites the public to make blood donation a routine habit to meet the needs of around 7,000 blood bags every month.
The Chairman of the Palembang City PMI, Dewi Sastrani, explained that currently his party is able to provide around 5,000 blood bags per month. However, there is still a shortage of around 2,000 bags to reach the ideal needs.
"We continue to work. Praise be to God, performance continues to show a positive trend, including 24-hour ambulance services. However, meeting the need for blood remains a real challenge. We want blood donation to be more than just an emergency action, but to become a lifestyle or lifestyle for the community," he said.
To achieve this target, the Palembang PMI implements three main strategies. First, expand the reach by directly visiting strategic locations where people's activities are crowded. Second, strengthen collaboration with various parties, such as government agencies, the private sector, and communities. Third, increase awareness that blood donation also provides health benefits for donors.
"We pick up the ball to various crowded points, strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation, and continue to educate the public that blood donation is also good for health," said Dewi.
In addition, the Palembang PMI is developing an Integrated Blood Donor System and Digital Volunteers to facilitate access to information for the public.
"Through this innovation, we want people to have easier access to information, both for donors and for those in need of blood," he added.
In carrying out various programs, security aspects remain the top priority. PMI Palembang ensures that all processes, from inspection to blood distribution, follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (CPOB) standards from the POM Agency.
"We apply quality management from screening to distribution to ensure that the blood received by the public is safe and quality," he said.
Dewi also hopes that the younger generation can play an active role in increasing social awareness.
"Young people are agents of change. They have the energy to move their surrounding environment to be more concerned about their fellow human beings," he said.
He emphasized his commitment to continue to improve the professionalism of the Palembang City PMI.
"Our spirit is 'Serving with Heart and Helping Without Limits'. Every drop of blood donated is a tangible manifestation of hope and life for others," he concluded.
