JAKARTA - With the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 or PP Tunas starting today, the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) provides an important note for parents. Deactivating social media accounts for children under 16 years old should be used as an opportunity to return children to physical activity and real social interaction.

The Chairman of the IDAI Central Board, Dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, Sp.A, emphasized that limiting gadgets is not merely compliance with the law, but a biological need for growth and development.

"The golden age of brain growth requires real sensory stimulation and two-way interaction that cannot be replaced by a screen. Physical activity is a crucial balancer for children to grow optimally both physically and psychologically," said dr. Piprim, Saturday (28/3).

Gawai ban for early age

IDAI gives a stern warning, especially for parents with children under the age of two. During this period, exposure to gadgets should be avoided completely because the brain is in the most critical stage of development which requires stimulation from the surrounding environment, not the blue light from the screen.

Not Just Rules, But Support

In line with this, the Head of the IDAI Growth and Development Coordination Working Unit, DR dr. Fitri Hartanto, Sp.A, emphasized that this government policy is only a foundation. Its success depends heavily on the active role of the family at home.

"This rule is here to help parents carry out their role better, not replace it. What we care about is not just children's access to social media, but their future quality through a healthy non-digital environment," explained dr. Fitri.

Impact of PP Tunas as of March 28, 2026

Starting today, a number of major digital platforms are officially starting to deactivate user accounts under the age of 16. Some of the affected platforms include:

Social media: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (Twitter), and Threads.

Entertainment & Games: YouTube, Bigo Live, and Roblox.

Towards the Indonesian Golden Generation

IDAI hopes that collaboration between the government, schools, digital platforms, and health workers can create an ecosystem that supports children to move more, express themselves, and socialize directly. Maintaining a balance between technology and real activities is the key to realizing a generation of gold Indonesia that is mentally strong and physically healthy.
