JAKARTA - The East Kalimantan Provincial Health Service (Dinkes) responded to and traced the alleged negligence of medical services that resulted in the death of a six-month-old baby at the Batuah Health Center.

"We invite all parties to hospitals and health centers who have served this patient to find out the details of his disease," said the Head of the Kaltim Jaya Health Office, Mualimin, as reported by ANTARA.

Jaya explained that the baby patient had previously sought treatment at a private hospital, but was taken home after the first examination.

Based on the initial investigation, he said, the baby was suspected of having a respiratory tract infection or childhood pneumonia that was life-threatening if it was not treated in time.

When the patient's condition worsened and was brought back to the Batuah Health Center, the Emergency Unit (UGD) was confirmed to be fully operational for 24 hours with the availability of oxygen supply.

The readiness of emergency services was realized thanks to the cooperation of the health center with the social responsibility program of various companies around who financed the health care personnel.

"However, due to the patient's very serious condition with a low oxygen saturation level below 70 percent, medical personnel immediately referred him to the nearest hospital," said Jaya.

Upon arriving at the referral hospital, the baby who was in a very critical state was ultimately unable to be saved despite medical efforts.

"As a precautionary step, we emphasize that the pneumonia vaccination program is distributed evenly so that fatal cases in toddlers can be prevented," said Jaya.

Previously, the case of the baby's death came to light after the family highlighted the alleged poor service in the form of an oxygen tube that was not optimal and the absence of an ambulance driver on standby.

Through Titus Tibayan Pakalla's lawyer, the victim's family is now considering a lawsuit or a mal-administration report while urging a thorough evaluation of the standards for monitoring health centers.
