JAKARTA - The community's need for comprehensive, high-quality, and international standard medical services continues to increase as the complexity of health problems increases, ranging from non-communicable diseases, degenerative cases, to the treatment of complex diseases that require advanced technology.
This condition encourages the strengthening of the national health service system, including through cross-country collaboration to provide access to superior medical care without having to rely on services abroad.
This effort is reflected in the strategic collaboration between Mayapada Healthcare (PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk.) (IDX: SRAJ) and Apollo Hospitals India which continues to show significant progress.
This cooperation is focused on the implementation of global standard clinical services and the development of Mayapada Apollo Batam International Hospital (MABIH) as the first private international hospital in the Batam International Tourism and Health Special Economic Zone (KEK).
The commitment of both parties was reiterated through an official visit by the leadership of Apollo Hospitals India to Batam and Jakarta on 7-9 January 2026, with the active support of the Indonesian and Indian governments.
The collaboration between Mayapada Healthcare and Apollo Hospitals has been established since 2023 and strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi in early 2025.
The implementation of cooperation is realized through various concrete programs, such as Continuing Medical Education (CME), proctorship for handling complex cases including advanced total knee replacement, as well as intensive training for doctors and nurses at Mayapada Hospital in India. These programs emphasize the long-term commitment of both institutions in the transfer of expertise and improvement of the quality of clinical services.
As part of strengthening the implementation of collaboration, a series of strategic visits on January 7-9, 2026 began with a meeting with BP Batam to discuss the readiness for the development of MABIH at the Batam International Tourism and Health Complex, which was followed by a direct review of the hospital location.
Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad, said that the presence of MABIH is expected to strengthen Batam's position as a health investment destination.
"This collaboration encourages economic growth, creates jobs, increases regional competitiveness, and strengthens the independence of national health services," he said.
On January 8, 2026, two MoUs were signed at Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta between Mayapada Healthcare and Apollo Hospitals. The agreement includes the implementation of preventive health services based on artificial intelligence (AI) as well as strengthening nursing competencies in emergency and critical care services.
Separately, Mayapada Healthcare also signed a MoU with the Indian Embassy which designates Mayapada Hospital as the official referral hospital of the Indian Embassy in Indonesia. The series of visits was closed on January 9, 2026 through discussions on collaboration on the utilization of facilities, technology, and human resources in health services, the signing of the MoU witnessed by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and a meeting with the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
"The series of visits to Apollo Hospitals reflects the seriousness of building an integrated, sustainable, and globally competitive world-class health service ecosystem. With the support of BP Batam, MABIH presents global clinical standards and international credibility that strengthens the position while encouraging Batam's economic growth, reducing the dependence of the Indonesian people on overseas health services, and building a sustainable health service ecosystem," explained Navin Sonthalia, President Director & CEO of Mayapada Healthcare.
The two MoUs signed between Mayapada Healthcare and Apollo Hospitals India in South Jakarta also agreed to the implementation of ProHealth, an AI-based preventive health service that focuses on risk prediction and prevention of non-communicable diseases.
In addition, cooperation also includes improving the skills of nurses in emergency services and critical care through Medvarsity, the largest health education institution in Asia which is part of Apollo Hospitals.
"We combine the advantages of infrastructure and human resources by presenting a world-class health service center. Supported by aligned leadership, AI-based technology innovation, seamless care, and knowledge and expertise transfer, we are building clinical excellence that is not only relevant today, but to be inherited for generations of Indonesian health workers," said Mayapada Healthcare President Commissioner, Jonathan Tahir.
In the development of MABIH and Tower 3 Mayapada Hospital South Jakarta (MHJS), Apollo Hospitals plays a strategic role. MABIH is designed to handle complex cases such as cancer, heart disease, and organ transplants, with the support of cutting-edge medical technology including AI as well as collaboration between Indonesian and international doctors.
