JAKARTA - In an era that is increasingly digitally connected, Indonesia's health world is at a critical point between great opportunities and structural challenges.

Grace Tahir, Director of Mayapada Hospital as well as founders of Doctor.id and Medico views digital transformation in the health sector as not only visible in terms of technology, but must be accompanied by changes in more collaborative mindsets and governance.

This was revealed by Grace at the 2025 KUMPUL Connect for Change Summit at The Ritz Carlton, Mega Kuningan, Jakarta on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

There is still a lot of room to improve. The most important thing is that everyone must have the courage to find a new way and remain humble. Everyone has a responsibility, and that's where the true meaning of transformation lies," said Grace.

Grace sees that technology has become an inseparable part of the modern medical world.

Talking about health services, of course technology plays a big role. Medical equipment is technology. With the improvement of medical equipment, we can detect disease early and give more targeted treatment," he explained.

The 48-year-old highlighted the progress of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and MedTech (Medical Technology) as two important pillars in changing future health services.

"From AI, medical equipment, to endoradiology, everything has great potential. The challenge is how hospitals can continue to adapt quickly," added Grace.

According to Grace, digital transformation in the health sector is nothing new.

"This has happened several years ago. But the challenge is not when we start, but how can we continue to move forward," he said.

Now most hospitals in Indonesia already have a basic digital system, but the ability to adapt to the latest innovations is still diverse.

"Technology continues to develop, and we have to make sure the system adapts quickly," he added.

Grace highlighted one important thing that is still lagging behind is the lack of investment in research and development (R&D) in Indonesia.

Other countries dare to invest heavily in R&D. We in Indonesia are often still technology consumers who adapt quickly, but have not been able to create. Now is the time to change the way of thinking," he said.

For Grace, this change in mindset is the core of digital health transformation.

We can't just be users. We have to be creators. Starting from education, from mindset, from awareness that change is the only way to a better future of health," he said.

Grace highlighted telemedicine as a real example of digitalization that has a big impact on society.

Telemedicine is very important. Indeed, there are still internet infrastructure constraints, especially in the regions. But this is still the most effective way to expand access to health services," he said.

For Grace, digital transformation is not a fast race, but a long journey. Cross-sectoral collaboration, long-term commitment, and serious investment in research so that technology really brings benefits to society.

"Digital transformation is not a matter of new tools, but a matter of a new way of thinking, namely how we work, collaborate and serve more humanely," added Grace.

In a similar context, Faye Wongso, Founder & Chairperson of KUMPUL also highlighted the importance of building ecosystem thinking in economic growth and cross-sector innovation.

"If we want to move forward together, we need to create cross-regional and cross-sectoral collaboration. Sometimes the problem is not in funds, but in access and mindsets." Faye said.

This view is in line with Grace Tahir's message, namely digital transformation, both in health, education, and the economy. Not only about technological advances, but about building a new mindset that is collaborative, adaptive, and sustainable.
