JAKARTA - The Riau Islands Provincial Government (Kepri Provincial Government) prioritizes the construction of a health polyclinic building at the Raja Ahmad Badminton Regional General Hospital (RAT Hospital) in 2026 to improve health services to the community.

Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad said his party must look for alternative funding sources to finance the strategic infrastructure project amidst the limited fiscal capacity of the area.

"We will ask the DPRD for approval to borrow funds from Bank Riau Kepri Syariah (BRKS) next year. Cooperation polling has been carried out with related parties," said Ansar in Tanjungpinang, Monday.

Ansar said that his party needed a budget of around Rp. 110 billion to build a health polyclinical building at the hospital owned by the Riau Islands Provincial Government.

According to him, the polyclinic building is planned to be built behind the RAT Hospital, so that the five-story hospital building currently operating will be focused on inpatient rooms and emergency hospital installations (IGD).

He believes that the need for public health services will increase, so the Riau Islands Provincial Government needs to add facilities and infrastructure and complete the shortage of specialist doctors so that in the future people will no longer need to seek treatment abroad, let alone abroad, such as Malaysia.

"If our hospitals are complete and their human resources are empowered, residents no longer need to seek treatment outside the region to abroad, by spending a lot of money," said Ansar.

Governor Ansar continued, adding that the development of health infrastructure is in line with President Prabowo's priority program to facilitate access to health services that are evenly distributed to the entire community.

He also conveyed that the policy of a loan fund scheme for infrastructure development took into account regional financial limitations.

"In previous years, we also borrowed funds from PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) to finance seven strategic projects in Riau Islands, one of which is the flyover in Tanjungpinang," said Ansar.
