JAKARTA - In the midst of demands for quality and equal health services throughout Indonesia, there is a fact that there are still many accredited health study programs (prodi) C that raise big questions.

Chairman of the Management of the Health Higher Education Independent Accreditation Institute (LAM-PTKes), Prof. dr. Usman Chatib Warsa, Sp.MK., Ph.D, gave a complete explanation of this situation.

According to Prof. Usman, the main challenge lies in the uneven quality of education in all health programs. He said that the world of health education should ideally have the same standards so that it can be judged fairly, including by international institutions.

"This is indeed our future work, the world must have the same standards, so there is a process for international institutions to judge. But in Indonesia the gradation is still common, 26 (medical fields) excel, especially in dentistry," said Prof. Usman, when met in the Kebagusan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

That means, only a small part of the study program has won the leading title, while the rest are still at a good or sufficient level. Some areas such as midwifery and nursing also still show a low achievement of superior accreditation. This is a concern because these two fields are very important in Indonesia's health care system.

"As far as I remember, in obstetrics, where the birth rate and death rate were high, a small assessment of the advantage. At first it was 9%, only now I see an increase, almost 12-13%, the same as nursing," he explained.

LAM-PTKes currently focuses not only on assessment, but also on prodi coaching and assistance. This effort was made to accelerate the improvement of the quality of education.

"Now the model is different, not just an assessment. Now let's work together to see what they have, what they don't have, let's do it in groups and push," he said.

"I see that there must be special training, the same as us, as seen from internationally given training," he continued.

To increase accreditation, the quality of lecturers and assessors is an important aspect. LAM-PTKes encourages a comprehensive increase in competence.

"We hope that LAM can provide assistance to assessors, lecturers must be improved. LAM not only assesses, but encourages them through facilities and training," said Prof. Usman.

LAM-PTKes targets at least 25% of health study programs to achieve superior accreditation. In fact, in the future, it is hoped that this number can reach 50%.

"It's the same as targeting LAM accreditation to be favored. At least 25%, later it can be 50%, what will we do? Now we are active, one of which is asking if a study program is needed. Assessors should not discriminate and let's practice it," he said.

The long-term vision of LAM-PTKes is to realize equitable and high-quality health services in 2045, coinciding with 100 years of independent Indonesia.

"In 2045, 100 years of Indonesia, health is not bad. Health services must be the same. You can't give birth differently and the results are different," he said.

"So it must be in accordance with their standardization and push so that they can excel in the future," he continued.

Finally, Prof. Usman emphasized the importance of fair coaching for all study programs, so that they do not feel judged only without the help of developing.

"Don't let them feel paid but not fostered. We are also fostered, report anything is corrected. Not only helps give big points," he concluded.
