JAKARTA - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga/BKKBN) continues to remind that pregnancy that is too fast can endanger mothers and babies, so prevention efforts are needed, one of which is by using a KB.

"The post-partial period is a strategic time for intervention in preventing unwanted pregnancy," said Head of BKKBN DIY Representative Mohamad Iqbal Apriansyah as quoted by ANTARA.

On this occasion Iqbal highlighted the importance of post-copy Family Planning Service (KB PP) as an effort to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

According to him, the achievement of KB PP in DIY shows a positive trend, where in 2024 it will reach 53.17 percent or a significant increase compared to the previous year which was only 43.6 percent.

"Even so, this achievement is still below the national target listed in Presidential Decree No. 72 of 2021, which is 70 percent," he said.

He said, KB PP is a contraceptive use program within 42 days after giving birth or during the postpartum period, with a clear goal, namely to prevent unwanted pregnancy, as well as to avoid health risks that can endanger mothers and babies.

"The results of the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (2017) show that around 25 to 30 percent of pregnancy occurs in just 12 months after giving birth. Too close pregnancy distance has the potential to pose various health risks for mothers and babies," he said.

Iqbal said that the uterus, which has not fully recovered, coupled with the condition of the mother's body who is still recovering, increases the risk of health problems, not to mention the psychological impact that also arises due to changes in the mother's body when pregnant, while having to take care of the baby.

One of the main factors that cause the high gestation rate in a short time is the low use of post-contraception.

"Many mothers do not realize when their fertile period will return, especially during breastfeeding," he said.

He said breastfeeding was not always an effective method to prevent pregnancy. In addition, the limited counseling on KB PP also contributed to the low use of contraception in that period.

"Through this activity, it is hoped that there will be an increase in the sustainability of the KB PP program by strengthening regulations in the regions, as well as improving service quality and collaboration between all relevant parties, starting from midwives, KB extension workers, to KB program managers at the DIY and district/city levels," he said.

The DIY Provincial Health Office, represented by Utami Kurniasih, conveyed the importance of strengthening the KB PP service policy through the implementation of health regulations that can run optimally according to the role and authority of each relevant institution.

Meanwhile, Sri Suharti, who represents the Regional Management of the Indonesian Midwives Association (PD IBI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, explained the strategy and efforts to optimize the post-trial contraceptive service achievements in the DIY region.
