JAKARTA - The Halal Product Guarantee Administration (BPJPH) together with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) strengthen coordination in monitoring the circulation of drugs and food, particularly related to claims of halal products.

This collaboration is strengthened through the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) Number 10 of 2024 (BPJPH) and Number KS.01.01.06.24.05 (BPOM) concerning Supervision of Halal Product Guarantee in the Medicine and Food Sector.

This concrete step from cooperation has resulted in important results. From the results of the supervision carried out, 11 batches of 9 processed food products were found to contain pork (porcine). These findings are based on laboratory test results, which include DNA testing or specific peptides of porcine.

What is worrying is that of the nine products, seven of them have been certified and labeled halal. This means that nine batches of seven halal products were officially found to contain pork elements. Meanwhile, the other two batches come from two products that do not yet have a halal certificate.

Responding to these findings, BPJPH moved quickly by imposing sanctions on seven halal certified products.

The sanction is in the form of withdrawing goods from circulation, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector. This step is taken to maintain the integrity of the halal certification system and provide maximum protection to consumers.

As for two products that have not been certified halal but are indicated to contain pork elements, BPOM imposes administrative sanctions. Business actors are given warnings and ordered to immediately withdraw products from the market.

This action refers to the provisions in Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food and Government Regulation Number 69 of 1999 concerning Food Labels and Ads.

The Head of BPJPH, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, appealed to all business actors to comply with applicable regulations. He emphasized that halal certification should not be seen as just an administrative obligation, but is a form of legal responsibility and a commitment to consumer protection.

"The halal certificate is a representation of the halal standards contained in the Halal Product Guarantee System. This standard must be consistently implemented so that the halalness of the product is truly maintained over time," said Ahmad Haikal Hasan, quoted from the official website bpjph.halal.go.id.

BPJPH and BPOM affirm their commitment to continue to carry out ongoing supervision in the field. Both also invite the public to actively participate in monitoring products circulating in the market.
