JAKARTA - Currently in an all-connected era, many of us start the morning by scrolling our cellphones or checking notifications, and ending the night still staring at the screen.

Although it can be seen as a light habit or entertainment alone, this routine can secretly damage your productivity, mental health, and sleep patterns.

Dr. Priyanka Sehak, a neurologist and general practitioner at AIIMS Delhi, via uploads on Instagram on December 2, 2025, explains the science behind this habit and shares simple ways to stop it.

If everyone knew about this. When you wake up in the morning and immediately look at your screen or cellphone, your brain absorbs so much random information. This affects your daily planning, work efficiency, and your daily cycle. What should be done, what is on the task list, everything can be disrupted. Your efficiency is declining," said Dr. Priyanka, quoted from the Hindustan Times page.

He added a domino effect of persistent screen exposure.

"Towards evening, what happened? Anxiety arises. The head hurts. You experience sleep loss. And still, at night you look at the screen again," he explained.

According to Dr. Seharawat, this habit is not just a matter of productivity, but also has a big effect on overall health.

"So far, anxiety has accumulated, headaches arise, but you keep staring at the screen and call it entertainment. Entertainment at what cost? Your health?" he added.

"This advice is simple but powerful, so let's stop it. You can break this cycle starting today, both in the morning and at night," he added.

Dr. Seharawat recommends setting up a structured routine, where in the morning it starts without a screen, utilizing sunlight and light physical activity to tune the rhythm of the day.

Limiting night screen exposure, especially before bedtime, can improve sleep quality and reduce stress.
