JAKARTA - Honeymoon cystitis is a condition that couples often experience after entering their honeymoon period. This term refers to complaints of pain or burning when urination arises after sexual activity increases.

Although often misinterpreted as a urinary tract infection, this condition is actually more often triggered by irritation in theuretra area due to high frequency of intimate relationships.

In addition to intense sexual activity, Gita added that the cleanliness of the genital area also plays an important role. Unclean public bathroom environments or toilets can increase the risk of bacterial contamination in the vagina. Therefore, hygiene must still be considered.

He also reminded that the balance of bacteria in the vagina is an important part of reproductive health. In the past, experts thought that the uterus was free from bacteria, but now it is known that good and bad bacteria can both be in it.

When this balance is disrupted, for example, due to abnormal vaginal pH changes, the bacteria can develop and potentially enter the uterus.

One of the habits that can damage the pH balance is the excessive use of antiseptic soap. Produks with antiseptics can actually remove vaginal normal flora and trigger unhealthy bacterial growth," he explained.

Gita emphasized the importance of consulting health facilities if symptoms continue, so that treatment can be given as early as possible.

He admitted that he experienced these symptoms just seven days after getting married.
