JAKARTA - Changes in the lifestyle of modern people have a major impact on heart health. High diets of fat and sugar, overstaying habits, work stress, to lack of physical activity are now a dangerous combination that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In the midst of busyness and a fast lifestyle, many people do not realize their daily lifestyle has paved the way for the onset of heart disease, one of the highest causes of death in Indonesia and the world.

Chairman of the Indonesian Cardiology Intervention Association (PIKI), dr. Sodiqur Rifqi, Sp.JP, explained that in recent years, there has been a significant change in the pattern of heart disease in Indonesia.

"In the past, the most common was heart disease with batromatics, but now cases have decreased. On the other hand, cut heart disease has increased rapidly due to risk factors such as diet, obesity, and lack of movement, which are increasingly common among us," he said at the 17th Indonesian Society of Interventional Cardiology Annual Meeting (ISICAM), at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, recently.

According to dr. Sodiqur, the increase in cases of heart disease is not only caused by genetic factors, but is mostly due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Lack of awareness of the importance of routine examinations and early detection also makes many new cases detected at a stage that is already severe.

"Simple habits such as maintaining weight, actively moving, and avoiding excess fat consumption can actually reduce the risk of heart disease significantly," he added.

As a concrete step to strengthen understanding and skills in the field of intervening cardiology, PIKI held its 17th Indonesian Society of Interventional Cardiology Annual Meeting (ISICAM) annual conference on 5 November 8, 2025 in Jakarta.

Through the theme 'Back to Fundals, Back to Foundation, Forward with Innovation,' this event emphasized the importance of strengthening the basic medical science as well as following the latest technological developments to ensure precise and safe heart therapy.

ISICAM 2025 was attended by more than 1,700 participants and dozens of international experts who shared experiences related to heart intervention, cutting-edge medical technology, as well as cardiovascular disease prevention and management strategies in the modern era.

This activity is proof of PIKI's commitment to strengthening education, research, and innovation in the field of cardiology to support national health transformation.

Dr. Sodiqur emphasized that public education and cross-disciplinary collaboration are the main keys in reducing the number of heart disease in Indonesia.

"Prevention must start from self-awareness. Medical innovation is important, but it will not mean without changes in people's behavior in maintaining a healthy lifestyle," he concluded.

ISICAM 2025 presents 59 international experts from 14 countries such as Spain, England, Poland, Turkey, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as 191 national experts.

Experts will share the latest experiences and skills in various fields ranging fromtenuic interventions, congenital heart disease, heart structural disorders, to peripheral blood vessel therapy.

This event also featured 17 live demonstrations of intervention carried out collaboratively between foreign hospitals, Nanjing First Hospital (China), the National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute (Bangladesh), and the National Heart Center Singapore, as well as six hospitals in Indonesia, including Harapan Kita Heart and Blood Vessel Hospital, Fatmawati Hospital, Prof. Dr. IGNG Ngoerah (Bali), Dr. Sardjito Hospital (Yogyakarta), Bina Waluya Hospital (Jakarta), and Primaya Hospital (Tangerang).

"This activity is estimated to be attended by more than 1,700 participants from various professions, such as heart specialists in intervention, Follow, nurses, cardiovascular technicians, and radiographers. We hope that all health workers who work in the heart catheterization room will benefit from this learning both in increased skills and cross-disciplinary collaboration," said dr. Dasdo Antonius Sinaga, Sp.JP, Chair of ISICAM 2025 Organizers.
