JAKARTA - Autoimmune diseases are a condition when the immune system attacks the cells and tissues of the body itself. So far, more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases have been known, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and scleroderma.

Data shows that the prevalence of lupus is estimated to reach 0.5% to 1.7% of the population, equivalent to more than 1.3 million people. Most of the sufferers are women aged 15'45 years. In general, autoimmune diseases attack about 5'10% of the Indonesian population, or the equivalent of 12.5'25 million people.

Unfortunately, the level of public awareness of this disease is still relatively low. Many sufferers do not realize the initial symptoms because it is similar to other diseases, so the diagnosis is often too late. After the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of studies also revealed an increase in autoimmune cases in Indonesia.

As an effort to increase public understanding, a health seminar was held at the Pekanbaru Livehouse on Sunday, September 21, 2025. This activity was attended by more than 150 participants from various groups who enthusiastically wanted to know more about autoimmune diseases.

Seminar presents Dr. Shofiana Nur Islami, a doctor from Eka Hospital Pekanbaru who provides education about symptoms, risk factors, and handling steps. The discussion took place interactively because participants were given the opportunity to ask questions directly.

"Autoimmune is often diagnosed late because the symptoms are similar to other diseases. The sooner it is recognized, the better the treatment results will be. This seminar is an important step to increase vigilance," explained dr. Shofiana, from the official statement of Holywings Group.

Andrew Susanto, President Commissioner of Holywings Group and Chair of the Holywings Cares CSR Program, emphasized that this activity is a form of commitment to support public health.

"We hope this seminar increases public awareness of the importance of maintaining health from an early age, so that disease prevention can be carried out appropriately," he said.

One of the participants, Rina (34), admitted that she had many benefits from the material presented.

"I often feel tired for no reason and don't know if it can be related to autoimmune. After participating in this seminar I became more understanding and motivated to check health," he said.

Especially for 50 elderly participants, the committee together with medical personnel from Eka Hospital Pekanbaru opened a free health check service. The examination includes checking blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and gout. Participants also receive vitamins and medicine according to the diagnosis.

In addition to medical education, the event is also packed with lively activities with the theme "People's Party". Various games such as throwing balls into buckets with basic food and electronic devices as well as ping pong ball relays with voucher prizes, make the atmosphere warmer.

More than just seminars, this event becomes a space for friendship between the community, medical personnel, and organizers. It is hoped that this kind of activity can encourage the public to be more concerned about the health of themselves and their families through routine medical examinations and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle.
