The Position Of Defecation Is Small, Which One Is Healthier For Men And Women?

urination is a simple thing that we do every day, but it turns out that the position when doing so has a medical basis. Men generally stand up, while women sit down. It's not just a habit, there's a scientific reason behind it.

For men, the position of urination is actually more flexible. Medically, there is no big difference between sitting or standing.

"There is no difference in urination time, flow speed, or how completely the bladder is empty, both sitting and standing," explained Christian Moro, professor of middle science and medicine at Bond University, quoted from the Body and Soul page.

Even so, there are certain conditions where the position can affect. In men with lower urinary tract symptoms, such as weak urinary flow, having to strain, or urinating not fully, the sitting position can help.

"For some men, sitting down helps increase the flow and urinate completely. But there are also those who feel more relieved when they stand up," said Moro.

Men with tame prostate magnification (bolign prostate hyperplasia) are even advised to stand up. Several studies show the standing position can help fully urinate.

Unlike men, women are advised to always sit down when urinating. This is related to the anatomy of the body.

"The female pelvic structure is different due to the presence of vaginas, uteruses, and other reproductive organs. Women also do not have a prostate that functions to support the bladder while standing," explains Charlotte PHILps, a PhD candidate at Bond University.

As a result, if you urinate while standing, the female bladder is more difficult to completely empty. The pelvic floor muscles also cannot relax perfectly.

"If the bladder is not completely empty, the risk could increase, such as urinary tract infections, bladder stones, to long-term kidney problems," said PHILps.

That's why sitting is the safest position for women. By sitting, the pelvic floor muscles can relax, the urine flow is smooth, and the empty bladder is more perfect.
