JAKARTA - A young woman experienced a terrible incident after consuming an energy drink before exercising, which caused her to have a heart attack and had to struggle for her life.
Reported by VOI from the NY Post page on Wednesday, February 19, Jazmin Garza, a 20-year-old woman from Texas, US had a chance to drink a little energy as a supplement, before finally starting to lift the burden with her boyfriend, Isaac Ayala, in November 2024. Moments later, she suddenly collapsed to the floor, her body was seizure, and her nose was bleeding.
Seeing his girlfriend unconscious and not breathing, the 21-year-old Ayala immediately acted quickly by performing CPR until the medical team arrived and took her to a nearby hospital.
"As soon as the paramedics arrived, they immediately took over and performed CPR for a few minutes. Finally, they managed to revive their heart rate by using a defibrillator," Ayala wrote on the GoFundMe page to raise funds to cover medical expenses.
Garza suffered a total of four heart attacks, and his condition worsened when doctors found that his stomach and kidneys also stopped functioning.
"His heart and lungs are in very bad condition. He has to undergo three types of life aids, an ECMO machine for blood circulation, analyzed to filter his kidneys, as well as a tool for controlling oxygen levels," said Ayala.
However, the magic happened. After two weeks of intensive care, Garza finally recovered remarkably and was allowed to go home. However, they are now faced with a very large hospital bill.

Until now, the doctor is still unable to determine the exact cause of the heart attack experienced by Garza. Garza himself recalled that at the time of the incident, he was doing a deadlift exercise when suddenly feeling unwell.
"Actually, I rarely drink caffeinated drinks. At that time, I went to the gym for a while and wanted maximum training, I only drank a third of that energy drink," he told Mail Online.
"After training, I sat for a while because I felt very dizzy. Isaac said I looked very pale. After that, I didn't remember anything else, but he said I suddenly had a seizure. I really don't know what happened to my body." he explained.
While there is no certainty whether the energy drink is the main cause, various studies show that excessive consumption of energy drinks can trigger serious cardiovascular disorders, including irregular heartbeats, heart attacks, and deaths.
