Government ensures BPJS Health premiums will not increase in 2027

JAKARTA - The government has ensured that it will not increase the BPJS Health premium in 2027. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the government is still maintaining the current premium amount.

"There is no plan to increase the BPJS tariff (in 2027)," Budi said in a press conference on the 2027 Budget and Financial Statements at the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, Friday, August 14.

Budi said the government would provide support to BPJS Kesehatan if the body's financial condition experienced a deficit.

"Friends, don't worry, if the BPJS deficit is definitely the central government will support," said Budi Gunadi.

The current BPJS Health membership fee is IDR 150,000 per month for Class I participants, IDR 100,000 for Class II, and IDR 42,000 for Class III. Specifically for Class III participants, participants pay a membership fee of IDR 35,000 per month, while the remaining IDR 7,000 is subsidized by the government.

The amount of the membership fee refers to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 64 of 2020 concerning the Second Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2018 concerning Health Insurance.

On the other hand, the sustainability of financing the National Health Insurance (JKN) program is still under pressure. BPJS Health President Director Prihati Pujowaskito previously revealed that the health service needs reached around Rp500 billion per day or Rp16.5 trillion per month.

Meanwhile, the membership fee that comes in is only around Rp14 trillion per month. This condition makes there is a difference of around Rp2 trillion every month.

BPJS Kesehatan also noted that the number of JKN participants had reached more than 285 million people or around 98.8 percent of the total population of Indonesia. However, around 54 million participants are still inactive.

To overcome this problem, BPJS Kesehatan is trying to increase active membership as well as payment of premiums. One of the steps is carried out through cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), the Directorate General of Regional Finance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

Pujo said that BPJS Kesehatan also encourages the integration of JKN membership with a number of public services. Thus, people who access certain services are expected to have active BPJS Kesehatan membership.
