BTN Supports Sustainable Urban Areas with the Planting of 10,000 Mangroves in Kuta Bali

JAKARTA - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) together with the Simbar Segara Joint Business Group (KUB) planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings in the Simbar Segara conservation area, Pemogan, Denpasar, Bali, Friday, August 7. The activity through the BTN KPR Program (Coastal Regrowth Area) is part of efforts to strengthen coastal area resilience against abrasion, support the absorption of blue carbon (blue carbon), and empower communities sustainably.

The program is also in line with the spirit of Danantara Indonesia in encouraging SOEs to create long-term value through sustainable business growth and provide positive impacts for society and the environment. For BTN as a bank that focuses on housing financing, housing sustainability is not only determined by buildings, but also by the quality of the environment where people live.

BTN Risk Management Director Setiyo Wibowo said that mangrove planting is not merely a conservation activity, but is part of the implementation of BTN's sustainability strategy and the Company's commitment to conducting a responsible banking business.

"For BTN, this is not just conservation. Strategically speaking, this is one of the important pillars of our vision and mission, namely running a banking business that is responsible to the community and the environment," said Setiyo.

According to Setiyo, this commitment is also contained in the BTN ESG roadmap, which integrates environmental, social, and governance aspects into the Company's activities, including in business development.

"In every business expansion, one aspect that we value is ESG, including how to manage the environment. Today's activity is one of the images of how BTN ESG is implemented through real actions, one of which is mangrove planting," he said.

The BTN KPR program also combines conservation with community empowerment through Nabung Mangrove, Kehati Investment in the form of mangrove crab release, Batara Action through ecoprint training and processing of mangrove derivative products, and Bale Corner to increase financial literacy and digitalization of transactions using QRIS.

Meanwhile, the Technical Reviewer of the Tahura Ngurah Rai UPTD Policy, Made Yudha Wibawa, who represented the Head of the Tahura Ngurah Rai UPTD, appreciated BTN's contribution to the rehabilitation of the area as well as community empowerment.

"We really appreciate BTN for helping the rehabilitation program and empowering the community. Our hope is that this collaboration does not stop today, but can continue to help groups grow to become more independent," said Made.

Chairman of the Simbar Segara Ketut Darsana KUB said that his group, which was established in 2014, is now helping to maintain and manage about 32 hectares of mangrove area, as well as developing ecotourism as a source of income for the community and a means of environmental education.

"We hope that the collaboration with BTN can continue. We need various parties to work together to carry out the mission of maintaining this mangrove forest," said Ketut.

The program in Bali continues BTN's commitment to rehabilitating the coastal ecosystem. From 2025 to 2026, the Company has planted 20,100 mangrove seedlings in six locations, namely Paser, Makassar, Brebes, Pekalongan, Thousand Islands, and Bali.

Through collaboration with Danantara Indonesia, the government, and the community, BTN continues to encourage environmental preservation to go hand in hand with economic empowerment while strengthening a more resilient and sustainable residential ecosystem.
