Breaking into the Chinese Market, Kadin Parimo Emphasizes the Quality and International Standards of Durian Exports

PALU - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of Parigi Moutong Regency (Parimo), Central Sulawesi, emphasized that the great opportunity for Indonesian durian exports to China must be balanced with an increase in product quality and compliance with international standards.

Chairman of the Parigi Moutong Chamber of Commerce, Faradiba Zaenong, said that durian from Central Sulawesi is very popular in the Bamboo Curtain market. Therefore, strengthening the supply chain from upstream to downstream is the main priority.

"Durian from Indonesia, especially Central Sulawesi, is very popular in the Chinese market. Therefore, export activities that are already underway must be strengthened from upstream to downstream," said Faradiba in a written statement in Palu, Sunday (26/7/2026).

It is recorded that until the beginning of 2026, the realization of Central Sulawesi durian exports has reached 7,052 tons. This achievement opens up increasingly wider investment opportunities, encourages downstream processing, and improves the welfare of local farmers.

International Standards and Food Safety Global Market

As one of the largest durian centers in Central Sulawesi, Parigi Moutong Regency plays a vital role in maintaining the quality of this export commodity.

Faradiba explained that the global market not only requires a sustainable supply of durian, but also prioritizes food safety, fruit quality, and a traceability system based on modern technology.

"The greater the export opportunities that open up, the greater the responsibility to maintain quality. Investment will come if we are able to present consistent, quality, safe to consume products, and meet international standards," he said.

Partnering with Chinese Companies to Standardize the Industry

As a concrete step, the Central Sulawesi Durian Development Working Group represented by Kadin Parimo has signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Chengdu Huishi Technology in Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu City, China, on July 22, 2026.

This cooperation focuses on the preparation of modern durian industry standards which include:

Fruit quality classification (grading). Non-destructive testing technology. Post-harvest preservation systems and the development of downstream processing. The application of a full traceability system using a special identification code on each product.

"This cooperation is an important step so that Central Sulawesi durian not only penetrates the international market, but also has recognized quality standards and provides quality assurance for consumers around the world," said Faradiba.

Educate Farmers About Pesticide Residues and Good Cultivation

In addition to technology, the Parimo Chamber of Commerce urged farmers to be disciplined in the use of fertilizers and agricultural drugs. Excessive use of pesticides can leave chemical residues that risk refusing the entry of commodities into the export market.

Kadin invites all stakeholders - from farmers, business actors, governments, to academics - to jointly implement good agricultural practices (Good Agricultural Practices).

"Exports are not just about selling fruit. More importantly, it is about building standards, bringing in investments, developing the processing industry, and ensuring that farmers get greater economic benefits. All of this must start with maintaining quality from the garden," he concluded.
