JAKARTA - Every day, PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) manages domestic waste of non-Hazardous and Toxic Materials (non-B3) category by applying the principles of circular economy through an integrated system based on 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). In 2023, IWIP will build a domestic waste management facility with an area of around 6,000 square meters. IWIP also processes non-B3 domestic waste that still has a calorific value into Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) or waste derived fuel. The stages of processing are sorting to separate materials such as glass, metal, and other inorganic materials, then counting so that the size is uniform, and drying to reduce the water content.
After going through this process, the material is processed into dry flakes or pellets that have a calorific value so that it has the potential to be used as an alternative fuel in the co-firing system of the Steam Power Plant (PLTU). The utilization of RDF through this co-firing method is one form of energy recovery (energy recovery) from materials that still have a use value, while supporting efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions and the application of the circular economy principle.
