JAKARTA - The President Director of PT Sido Muncul, Dr. (H.C.) Irwan Hidayat, was present as a speaker at the 2026 Nusantara Herbal Festival seminar held as part of the 64th Anniversary of the Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW) Yogyakarta on Friday, July 17.
In a seminar attended by hundreds of participants from students, MSMEs, academics, communities, to doctors, Irwan explained the material with the theme "Herbalization: from Natural Wealth and Tradition to the Global Market".
Irwan revealed that through the forum, he wanted students, UMKM actors, and the wider community to know how to process and utilize the natural wealth that exists into useful herbs and practical use from the perspective of entrepreneurs.
"Our natural wealth can be processed to become something useful," said Irwan.
To make it easier for the public and small business actors not to have to repeat research from the beginning, Sido Muncul has now launched a special education portal called sidoherbalpedia.com which summarizes the results of literature reviews, clinical trials, to preclinical trials of 80 traditional herbal raw materials. Starting from the Crown of God plant, Katuk leaves, Salam leaves, temulawak to turmeric with detailed morphology, content, and mechanism of action.
Through this information portal, the public and MSMEs are expected to immediately search for data based on the type of medicinal plants to find out the dose and level of safety, so that they can focus on learning how to produce correctly without being hampered by expensive research costs.
"I made a collection of changes to herbal ingredients, for example, the crown of the gods, katuk leaves, and lemongrass leaves. All of these have preclinical and clinical trials in the literature. I did research based on a review of the literature," said Irwan.
This portal, said Irwan, is not for the doctor's lane. But to educate the public. This facility can be used by UKM actors. They just have to look at Sidoherbalpedia.com.
"For example, for temulawak ingredients, they can see the process, test its safety, and the bibliography there. So, it can be used by everyone, including UMKM actors, no need to research it yourself or feel insecure," said Irwan.
UMKM perpetrators can actually practice it after seeing and learning it.
"Small businesses don't need to research themselves because they will only repeat the same thing," he said.
"If it's phytopharmaka, it's specifically for doctors to consume so that doctors believe and want to use it, then there must be phytopharmaka. However, the public does not need it. The transformation is actually easy because the research is already there, just practice it. If people go to these UMKM healers, they already believe. If you read about temulawak and are convinced that temulawak is safe for that indication, you can tell your patients," he explained.
For the global market, continued Irwan, this is an opportunity, where everyone can practice it and do not need to wait for a large pharmaceutical factory.
"Just read the information on Sidoherbalpedia.com, you can find out who the researcher is and what the library data is," he said.
