Integrated People's School 2 Medan City Operates, Capacity Reaches 1,080 Students

JAKARTA - The Integrated People's School (SRT) 2 of Medan City started implementing the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year on Monday, July 13, 2026.

After being completed by the Ministry of Public Works (PU) in early July 2026, the school consisting of elementary, middle, and high schools is ready to be used for teaching and learning activities for 270 students from Medan City and its surroundings.

Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo said the construction of the People's School is a tangible form of the government's commitment to improving the quality of human resources through the provision of decent, modern and international standard educational facilities. This program also supports the implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita in expanding the equalization of access to education.

"The construction of this People's School is a tangible form of the government's commitment to building superior human resources. The PU Ministry wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality," said Minister Dody.

SRT 2 Kota Medan stands on an area of 6.01 hectares in Tanjung Selamat Village, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City, North Sumatra. This school is designed as an integrated education area with a capacity of around 1,080 students, consisting of 540 students at the elementary level, and 270 students each for the junior high and high school levels. In this 2026/2027 academic year MPLS implementation, the school received students consisting of 60 elementary students, 90 junior high school students, and 120 high school students.

The school complex is equipped with facilities in the form of learning buildings for elementary, middle, and high school levels, student dormitories, laboratories, teachers' apartments, multipurpose buildings, mosques, guest houses, canteens, kitchens with waste treatment facilities, clean water facilities, ceremonial fields, CCTV systems, and sports facilities in the form of mini soccer and basketball fields.

Deputy Head of School for Facilities and Infrastructure as well as Sports Teacher of SRT 2 Medan City, Lastiar Pasaribu, thanked President Prabowo and the PU Ministry for building SRT 2 Medan City with a quality building and adequate facilities and infrastructure.

"In this permanent SR, the building is ready. Then for infrastructure such as classrooms, they are equipped with tables and chairs that are sufficient to accommodate a capacity of 30 students, and are equipped with whiteboards. After the MPLS is completed, teachers have also prepared modules and interactive media that can improve children's ability to follow matriculation learning later," said Lastiar.

SR's existence also received a positive response from parents and students. Rike Sari, one of the parents of students from the Medan Helvetia District, admitted that he was happy that his child could go to school at SRT 2 Medan City.

"I am very grateful that my child can be accepted here. I hope my child can be smarter, better and can develop his talents and interests. I also thank the government for having built a very large, spacious SR with very good facilities. Thank you to President Prabowo for proposing this SR because it has made children who are unable and parents whose work is limited to be able to go back to school," he said.

Not less enthusiastic, Fandi, one of the SRT 2 students of Medan City at the elementary level, also admitted that he was happy to be able to carry out his studies at a school that has complete facilities. Moreover, SRT 2 Kota Medan is also equipped with a mini soccer field that can support his interests and aspirations in the future.

"I'm happy because the school is nice, beautiful and has a ball field. Because my dream is to become a football player. Thank you President Prabowo and the PU Ministry for building SR," he concluded.

The construction of SRT 2 Medan City is carried out by PT Nindya Karya (Persero) together with PT FYP through the Operation Cooperation (KSO) scheme with a contract value of IDR 258 billion sourced from the 2025-2026 Budget Year State Budget.

The work was carried out for 200 calendar days involving around 900 workers. The Ministry of PU hopes that the facilities that have been built can support the optimal implementation of learning activities while expanding learning opportunities for children from families in need. [ADV]
