JAKARTA - Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zone 4 recorded oil production of 27,500 barrels per day (BOPD) and gas of 506 MMSCFD in the first half of 2026.

General Manager of PHR Zone 4 Djudjuwanto said that from January 1 to June 30, 2026, Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zone 4 has also realized 27 development well drilling work plans (RK).

"The drilling produced an additional 1,549 BOPD of oil production, equivalent to 125 percent of the year-to-date (YTD) oil production target from development drilling in WP&B 2026," he said, Tuesday, July 14.

He added that a number of strategies to increase oil and gas production in the midst of field conditions that have been aged or mature to support national energy resilience.

Over time, production in the oil and gas field will naturally decline.

"This condition occurs due to the decrease in reservoir pressure and the depletion of hydrocarbon reserves," he explained.

To answer this challenge, PHR Zone 4 carried out development drilling, one of the strategies implemented by the step out drilling method.

Step out drilling is drilling outside the boundaries of an area that has been proven to be productive to find out the potential for continuation of the reservoir also flowing in the surrounding area.

"The big idea of drilling carried out by PHR Zone 4 is that each drilling not only produces production, but also opens up opportunities for the discovery of new reserves to support the sustainability of the company's operations and national energy resilience in the future," said Djudjuwanto.

In 2026, PHR Zone 4 plans to drill step outs in four Pertamina EP (PEP) entity fields, namely PEP Adera Field, Prabumulih Field, Ramba Field, and Limau Field.

Drilling includes ABB-A5, BNG-A12, GNK-PD17, LKT-23, MJ-OS2 NRB-B, and LVT-B wells.

The step out drilling is expected to add 209 BOPD of oil production and 0.04 MMSCFD of gas.

In addition, PHR Zone 4 is implementing dual completion in 2026 in the BNG-D14, BNG-D19, and BNG-B7 wells, which are part of the Adera Field, as well as in the GNK-PD80 well, which is part of the Prabumulih Field.

Dual Completion is targeted to increase oil production by 325 BOPD and gas by 2.43 MMSCFD.

Dual completion is a well completion method that allows production from two reservoirs through one well.

This method can optimize the acquisition of hydrocarbons and increase the efficiency of field development.

The two strategies are part of development drilling or drilling in existing fields that have proven to have hydrocarbon reserves.

For 2026, PHR Zone 4 targets 100 development drilling work plans (RK) with oil production from drilling results of 4,479 BOPD.

In addition to innovating in drilling, PHR Zone 4 also responds to the challenges of mature fields through the maintenance of existing wells.

Every field manager, both Senior Field Manager and Field Manager in Zone 4, is tasked with suppressing natural production decline through maintenance of facilities and infrastructure at each well.

"We target field leaders to maintain a natural decline of 15-20 percent by maintaining the performance of artificial lift, surface facilities, and other existing facilities. Thus, when there is success in developing new wells, production will increase, not just covering the natural decline," said Djudjuwanto.
