JAKARTA - The Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, continues to encourage the development of Intellectual Property or Intellectual Property (IP) of films based on local culture. This step is expected to be a new driving force in improving creative economy in various regions.
As a tangible manifestation, the Ministry of Culture is committed to developing the film "Foufo", a collaborative work between SKAK Studios and SinemArt. The support provided includes a series of audiences, strategic collaboration opportunities, strengthening IP, cross-sector facilitation, to expanding public awareness.
"Culture is not only preserved, but can also be hybridized through creativity, innovation, and technology, so that it provides economic benefits. We hope that more filmmakers in various regions will dare to raise local wisdom," said Teuku Riefky Harsya in a written statement, Sunday (5/7/2026).
'Foufo' Film is Proof of Cultural and Economic Potential
The Minister of Economy and Trade emphasized that the film Foufo is a tangible proof of how local culture can be transformed into a creative economic product with high added value. The courage to use regional languages, provide a stage for new talent, and focus on IP development are strategic steps in strengthening the national creative ecosystem.
The production process of this film recorded a very large local involvement, including:
90 Percent of Local Talent: Involving the majority of local actors and crew, most of whom are newcomers. 120 Surabaya Animators: Collaborating with animators from Hompimpa Animworks Surabaya specifically for the development of the Foufo animated character."Today we see that this commitment has materialized into a work that is ready to be enjoyed by the public. This proves that stories from the region can become interesting entertainment while also having economic potential," added Riefky.
Appreciation of Bayu Skak and Vision of Building from the Region
The director of the film Foufo and Founder of SKAK Studios, Bayu Skak, expressed deep appreciation for the full support of the Ministry of Craft. According to him, the facilitation of production in the region and the opening of industry networks have greatly helped local filmmakers.
