JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the repair of the Bailey Bridge at the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge, Kutablang District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province.
During the work, traffic on the Medan-Banda Aceh National Road section was temporarily diverted through a lane that had been designated by officers in the field to ensure the safety of road users and support the smooth repair process.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said the government was committed to maintaining the stability and connectivity of national roads in Aceh Province, including at points that had previously been affected by disasters or required emergency handling.
According to him, public safety is the main priority in every work implementation in the field.
"Improvements are being made so that the bridge can be safely passed again so that community connectivity and logistics distribution are maintained," said Dody in a written statement to VOI, Monday, June 29.
The temporary closure of the Kutablang Bailey Bridge was carried out on Sunday, June 28, 2026 to replace 20 pieces of steel floor plates of the bridge which were damaged, including several plates that were broken due to vehicles with excess load or over dimension and over loading (ODOL).
The work is expected to take around 6 to 9 hours.
During the work, all traffic flows on the east Aceh cross-line were diverted through the Awe Geutah Bailey Bridge in the Paya Teupin Reudeup area, South Peusangan District.
The PU Ministry appeals to road users to follow traffic signs, comply with the arrangements of officers in the field, and arrange travel time to avoid congestion around the location.
As of 20.00 WIB on June 28, 2026, the progress of work has reached 71.1 percent.
The Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) team together with related parties continues to work intensively so that repairs can be completed as quickly as possible while prioritizing safety aspects and the quality of work.
The PU Ministry also reminded the importance of compliance with the provisions on vehicle dimensions and load limits.
ODOL vehicles not only accelerate the damage to road and bridge infrastructure, but also increase the risk of accidents and disrupt the smooth mobility of the community and the distribution of goods.
The PU Ministry expressed its appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation during the repair process.
With the support of all parties, it is hoped that the work can be completed immediately so that traffic on the strategic section connecting Aceh Province with North Sumatra can return to normal, safe, and smooth operation. (ADV)
