JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk has expanded access to natural gas in the Yogyakarta region.

Through the innovation of the use of natural gas-based compressed natural gas (CNG) clustering, the people of Yogyakarta, especially the Sleman district, can now enjoy the real benefits of safe, reliable, and efficient natural gas for daily cooking.

The success of the implementation of the CNG Clustering scheme in Sleman Regency is also a pilot project (showcase). This also had the opportunity to be reviewed directly during a working visit by Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung on Friday last week, June 19, 2026.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung appreciated PGN's readiness in the implementation of CNG-based jargas in Sleman.

This innovation is in line with the government's steps to continue to encourage the use of natural gas as a cleaner, more efficient, and domestically sourced transition energy to strengthen national energy resilience.

Through the 2026-2029 RPJMN, the government targets the development of around 350 thousand home connections per year through various funding schemes.

"The use of CNG and jargas has an impact on the efficiency of housewives, practical and safe. Meanwhile, for the government, it can reduce the consumption of subsidized LPG and reduce the burden of subsidies and imports of LPG," Yuliot said in a statement to the media, Monday, June 22.

PGN President Director Arief K. Risdianto welcomed the visit of the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and related stakeholders for their support for the implementation of CNG Clustering in Sleman.

PGN emphasized that the Sleman gas station using the CNG clustering scheme was successfully implemented and became a tangible proof that the innovation can be applied in other regions in Indonesia.

With this CNG Clustering scheme, natural gas can be distributed safely and reliably to the household distribution network, without waiting for the existence of the main transmission pipeline network.

"People don't need to worry about security, because high-pressure CNG of around 200 bar has been adjusted to the cluster system to flow safely to household kitchens. With strict supervision and reliable pressure regulation technology (PRS), the flow of natural gas to the kitchens is safe for daily use," explained Arief.

Arief continued, the presence of this jargas greatly supports household cooking activities to be much more practical, efficient and calm because its safety is maintained. On the other hand, this jargas is a real step to help the government in alleviating the burden on the state budget by reducing dependence on imports and energy subsidies.

Until now, PGN has built more than 4,500 Home Connections (SR) in Sleman with a distribution pipeline network stretching over 141 kilometers. The average distribution of natural gas to Jargas Sleman customers has reached around 84 thousand cubic meters (M3) per month. This figure is equivalent to the utilization of around 64 metric tons of LPG per month.

The utilization of jargas in the Sleman area is not only targeting the household sector, but will continue to be massively expanded to strengthen the local economy, ranging from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), restaurants, hotels, to health facilities such as hospitals.

In executing this beyond pipeline service, PGN optimizes synergies with its subsidiary, PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (Gagas), which already has a portfolio in the management of non-piped gas distribution.

Currently, PGN through Gagas manages and operates 14 SPBG/Mother Stations and 4 Mobile Refueling Units (MRU) which have reached various CNG consumers in the transportation, commercial, and industrial sectors in various regions of Indonesia.

One of the commercial customers who has used CNG is the Payakumbuah Restaurant in Yogyakarta, with CNG consumption reaching 2,000 - 2,300 M³.

The benefits felt in the restaurant's operations are energy cost efficiency. Compared to previous energy, using CNG can save costs of around 30 - 33 percent.

"PGN has long experience in managing natural gas, both through pipelines and non-pipeline modes such as CNG and LNG. As a Pertamina Gas Subholding, we are ready to support the Government's steps in formulating the targeted use of CNG implementation and play an active role in the target of diversifying national energy. Through close synergy, PGN is committed to ensuring that the benefits of natural gas can be felt fairly and sustainably by all levels of society," concluded Arief.
