JAKARTA - Citibank, N.A., Indonesia (Citi Indonesia) equipped around 200 students from various levels of education with practical financial literacy which took place during June 2026, to face economic challenges in the modern era.
This was carried out through a sustainable program entitled Inspired Purpose Pathway of Literal Generations.
The program was realized by partnering with the Love of the Nation Children Foundation (YCAB).
The social program is based on the pillar of the Citi Foundation's youth strategy (Youth Strategy) which focuses on providing young people aged 18 to 24 years old to be ready to enter the workforce.
Country Head of Public Affairs Citi Indonesia Hario Widyanto said the move was triggered by the inequality between understanding and financial access in the community.
Based on data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the financial inclusion index in Indonesia continues to soar beyond its literacy index, a phenomenon that has a very significant impact on the younger generation.
"We know that based on OJK data, financial literacy has increased, but inclusion has actually increased faster in Indonesia than literacy. And this is especially true for young people," said Hario when met in the SCBD Sudirman area, Jakarta, Thursday, June 18.
Hario emphasized that the program was purely a social action without commercial tendencies.
Citi Indonesia does not associate the educational activities with the introduction or sale of owned banking products.
Moreover, Citi Indonesia's main business focus has now completely shifted to the institutional banking segment, both Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G).
"This is purely a financial literacy program that is really to increase awareness. In fact, this is really a volunteering activity to share experiences and understanding with these younger siblings," he said.
Throughout June 2026, the initiative has completed three initial series of events centered in the Jakarta, West Java and Central Java regions in a hybrid manner.
The kick-off of the program is targeted to reach around 2,500 participants by the end of 2026, including among them the group of young people with disabilities who receive special attention in this briefing.
The implementation to various regions outside the initial target area will be massively driven by YCAB as the main implementing partner, with the full support of Citi volunteers online.
Citi Foundation also disbursed a total grant fund of 25 million US dollars allocated to 50 social institutions around the world.
Indonesia is one of the countries that has succeeded in absorbing the funds, with an allocation of up to 500,000 US dollars for the two-year program period.
"The funds are used for a two-year program, this year and next year. The target is young people, especially those aged 18 to 24 years who are ready to work, new graduates or already working but want to develop themselves to prepare for better financial literacy," he said.
