JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is facing challenges in distributing materials in the construction of People's Schools (SR) in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province.

The difficulty of accessing the land route makes some of the project materials have to be transported by air so that the target for the completion of construction can be achieved.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the logistical constraints faced in Nagan Raya were similar to the conditions of the SR construction in Subulussalam.

Limited transportation access makes material distribution one of the main challenges in accelerating the project.

Dody said this while reviewing the construction of SR Nagan Raya, Aceh Province, Sunday, June 14.

"So, the supply of materials by land is indeed heavy. There is an airport, but the airport is still not 100% we can use Hercules. Just now from friends of service providers, Waskita Karya, will try to continue to use air transport because it is the fastest and can," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Monday, June 15.

He said that some of the construction materials had to be brought from Medan and Jakarta. However, the condition of the land route to the project site made the delivery process take more time and effort.

On the other hand, the available airport facilities are also not yet fully able to serve large-capacity cargo aircraft such as Hercules.

Even so, PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk as the project contractor will maximize the use of air transportation to accelerate the supply of materials to the construction site.

Despite facing distribution obstacles, the government remains optimistic that the construction of SR Nagan Raya can be immediately functional for teaching and learning activities.

He said, the current development progress has reached 65 percent. The government targets, the educational facility can start operating in the upcoming new school year.

"So, today the progress is 65 percent. It's pretty good. We are chasing so that hopefully by the end of June it will be functional for elementary, junior high and high schools. And the younger siblings around South Aceh can go to school in July 2026," he said.

According to Dody, if there are a number of facilities that have not been fully completed due to material distribution constraints, the government will prioritize that schools can first be used for teaching and learning activities. The completion of facilities will be carried out gradually.

"So, maybe some places that do have difficulties in transporting materials, yes. Maybe we try our best to be functional first, lah. Later, then gradually we will perfect it so that it can really succeed," he said.

SR Nagan Raya was built on an area of 8.1 hectares and was designed as an integrated education area.

The facilities that have been prepared include SD, SMP and SMA education buildings, biology laboratories, mosques, multipurpose buildings, ceremonial fields, mini soccer and basketball fields, student dormitories, canteens to teachers' apartments.

When fully operational, the SR Nagan Raya is projected to be able to accommodate around 1,088 students.

The presence of this facility is expected to support the equalization of access to education as well as improve the quality of human resources in the Aceh region.
