JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) reported that it had successfully executed the construction of new and renewable energy (EBT) based power plants until 2026.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo revealed that by May 2026, a total of 22.57 gigawatt (GW) capacity EBT power plant projects had been successfully built by this red plate electricity company.

"Until May 2026, PLN with its best efforts has executed 22.57 GW of EBT-based plants, including 0.78 GW that has been successfully operated (COD)," said Darmawan, quoted Friday, June 5.

Not only that, Darmawan said that the developer of the EBT plant in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025-2034 continues to show progress.

He detailed that out of the total target of adding 52.8 gigawatt (GW) of EBT capacity and energy storage systems (batteries), about 43 percent of which have entered the execution phase.

"In the RUPTL, 76 percent is based on renewable energy and also batteries, namely 52.8 gigawatt," said Darmawan.

Darmawan said the implementation of EBT projects was still being closely monitored by the government. In fact, PLN is required to submit periodic project progress reports every two weeks.

Of the total 52.8 GW planned, as much as 30.2 GW is currently still in the feasibility study phase of the project. Meanwhile, projects with a capacity of 16.5 GW have entered the procurement process.

The projects that have entered the construction phase have reached 5.2 GW. In addition, PLN has also completed the commissioning phase or operational test for a capacity of around 0.7 to 0.8 GW.

"So from 52.8 gigawatt, 43 percent of this EBT-based plant is already in the process of being executed," said Darmawan.

Furthermore, Darmawan also conveyed that the government plans to start the first phase of the renewable energy quick wins program which includes the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 39 gigawatt hours (GWh).

As well as, the construction of a renewable energy-based power plant with a capacity of 17 gigawatt peak (GWp).

"The funds in this case can immediately reduce expensive fuel consumption and be replaced with cheaper energy," said Darmawan.
