JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that the current electricity tariff has never increased since 2017.

However, this does not apply to customers with power above 3,500 volt ampere (VA).

Acting Director General of Electricity (Dirjen Gatrik) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Tri Winarno said that in fact the increase in electricity tariffs had only occurred once, namely in 2022, but only applied to household customers with power above 3,500 VA and the government.

"For the current electricity tariff, there has basically been no increase since January 1, 2017, except for the tariff for households above 3,500 VA and the government tariff which was adjusted in 2022," said Tri in a Public Hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Thursday, June 4.

According to Tri, the absence of adjustments to electricity tariffs in the last 10 years is also one of the main factors that cause the burden of electricity subsidies and compensation to increase year by year.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that the total electricity subsidies and compensation in 2023 reached Rp23 trillion, then rose to Rp177 trillion in 2024 and reached Rp201 trillion in 2025.

Meanwhile, in 2026, the electricity subsidy budget was set at IDR 100.83 trillion with the projected compensation needs reaching IDR 144 trillion.

Tri said that until April 2026, the realization of electricity subsidies and compensation had reached Rp59.9 trillion, consisting of subsidies of Rp30 trillion and compensation of Rp29.04 trillion.

As for 2027, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources proposed an electricity subsidy budget of IDR 108.43 trillion.

"For the 2027 fiscal year, we propose an electricity subsidy requirement of IDR 108.43 trillion with a target of IDR 45.91 trillion customers," said Tri.
