JAKARTA - The Korean wave has not receded. South Korea's content industry exports set a new record in 2025, supported by the popularity of K-content which continues to be used as an engine for economic growth by the government.

As reported by Kyodo News, Tuesday, June 2, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said that temporary content exports reached USD14.9 billion in 2025. This figure is up from USD14.1 billion in the previous year.

K-content refers to South Korean popular culture products, such as dramas, music, films, games, webtoons, and various other digital content.

The impact did not stop on the screen. The number of foreign tourists coming to South Korea also rose to a new record, from 16.3 million people to 18.9 million people last year.

Kyodo News reported that foreign residents' credit card spending in South Korea also set a record of USD14.1 billion. The government said the increase was driven by easing entry rules and more aggressive promotions.

Minister of Culture Chae Hwi-young said the government is now targeting a K-culture market worth 400 trillion won by 2030. The target is up from the previous target of 300 trillion won.

The data shows that the South Korean content industry is now not only an entertainment product, but also contributes to exports, tourism, and foreign tourists' spending.
