JAKARTA - The National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) plan to build a flyover or non-piece intersection (STS) at a point that intersects with the railway (KA) on Sudirman Street, Tangerang City, Banten, is considered appropriate to prevent potential accidents because drivers break through the gate.

"We welcome this as a permanent solution to overcome accidents due to drivers breaking through railway gates and other actions that violate the rules," said Tangerang City DPRD Member Apanudin, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, May 31.

Previously, in February 2026, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Railway hit a truck at the JPL 21 Poris Station and Baticeper crossing.

The cause of the incident was that the truck body was stuck on the track and not far away, the Soetta Airport train passed at high speed.

Therefore, the Tangerang City DPRD proposed that the construction of the flyover not only on Jalan Sudirman, but also on Jalan Maulana Hasanuddin from Batuceper to Poris.

Apanudin assessed that the strategic step in the construction of the flyover is very important in overcoming the congestion that has been influenced by the crossing of a piece of the Duri-Tangerang commuter line.

"The construction of the flyover at the point that intersects with the railway line is an urgent need considering the high traffic density in the area," he said.

According to him, in addition to the issue of vehicle density, safety aspects are also an important consideration in accelerating the construction of flyovers in the two areas because accidents often occur at the railway crossing.

"DPRD in essence supports what is the direction of development policy in the City of Tangerang, both those built by the province and the center. However, we advise that the traffic study must be absolutely perfect," he said.

Director of Traffic of the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Rudi Irawan, assessed that the construction of the Sudirman STS had a high level of urgency because the area had been experiencing long queues and density due to a single crossing.

"Therefore, this STS is a priority, not only for traffic flow, but also to increase public safety," he said.

Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Tangerang City, Yeti Rohaeti, said the plan to build a flyover or STS on Jalan Sudirman has a length of 600 meters with an estimated budget of around Rp80 billion.

"The Tangerang City Government has proposed that the implementation be accelerated from the planned 2028 to 2027. Currently, a number of supporting documents for the development are in the process of auction and preparation," he said.

Several documents are being prepared, including traffic engineering documents, detailed engineering design (DED), environmental impact analysis (AMDAL), to land acquisition processes.

"This regional government targets that the land acquisition process can begin after the DED is completed. If all documents are complete, then the physical development is targeted to start in mid-2027," he said.
