JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa ensures that the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate to penetrate the level of Rp. 17,800 per US dollar does not require the government to recalculate the State Budget (APBN).

The Ministry of Finance, according to him, had previously simulated various economic scenarios, including taking into account when the global oil price reached 100 US dollars per barrel.

"We have calculated. At the time of the (global oil) simulation of 100 dollars per barrel, we have also calculated the rupiah assumption. So there is no problem, I don't have to recalculate the state budget," said Purbaya when met at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 27, reported by ANTARA.

In addition, he considers the condition of the bond market is still under control even though the rupiah is under pressure. This is assisted by the government's strategy to take stabilization steps through bond purchases so that yields remain maintained.

"But here, even though the rupiah weakens the bond, the yield goes down. Because of the action of the government, the action of our friends in the treasurer (Directorate General of Treasury), to buy a little (buyback), so that the yield is somewhat controlled," he said.

Purbaya said the stability of the bond market was an important factor in maintaining foreign investors' interest in domestic assets.

"So as long as the bond market is under control, the ability of foreign investors to invest in our bonds will be maintained. We have started to see that there is foreign capital entering the market

In addition, the State Treasurer also revealed that the government was preparing further steps to strengthen the rupiah exchange rate.

"In the future, there will be another government action that will help significantly raise the rupiah," he added.

Even though the rupiah has weakened, the Minister of Finance assessed that this condition is not in line with the fundamentals of the Indonesian economy, which he considers to be still quite good.

"This happens because the fundamentals are good, it actually doesn't make sense. Usually it weakens if there are disturbances in the economic fundamentals," he said.

Meanwhile, the rupiah exchange rate was recorded as weakening 0.20 percent to reach Rp17,830 per US dollar.
