JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman opened the opportunity to export fertilizers this year in line with the high national fertilizer stocks which are currently considered to be surplus. One of the countries that have expressed their interest is India.

Amran said the Indian government had submitted a request for imports of 500,000 tons of fertilizer to Indonesia. Even so, Amran said the plan to export fertilizer would consider the destination country that provides the most profitable price for Indonesia.

"The Indian ambassador called me directly to ask for 500,000 tons. We'll see. We're the most profitable price. So if we export, the price is the highest," Amran told reporters when he was met at his residence, Kalibata, South Jakarta, Tuesday, May 19.

Amran is optimistic that fertilizer exports can be realized this year because the national fertilizer stock is still in excess condition.

"Yes, we are trying this year. Our stock is still in excess, we still have a lot," said Amran.

In addition, Amran also revealed that exports of urea-type fertilizers have been running to Australia with a nominal value of Rp7 trillion.

"The fertilizer we exported yesterday. The value is already in progress. It is Rp. 7 trillion to Australia. The Minister of Agriculture directly called me 3 days ago, if I'm not mistaken, early in the morning, Julie Collins. Well, this has been exported. The ones who ask are the Philippines, Brazil, Pakistan, India, and there are still several more," he said.

Even though it opens up export opportunities, Amran emphasized that the policy will not interfere with the needs of national farmers.

According to him, the government has actually succeeded in suppressing the price of subsidized fertilizer at the farmer level.

"But if Indonesian farmers, the price of subsidized fertilizer will drop by 20 percent," he said.
