JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets the completion of the Tahap II People's School (SR) in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), in June 2026.
The school, which was built in Bulurejo Village, Kapanewon Lendah, was designed to accommodate up to 1,080 students.
Until now, the construction progress of the SR has reached about 38 percent.
The construction was carried out on an area of 7.1 hectares (ha) with a State Budget (APBN) worth Rp. 214 billion.
This is part of the government's efforts to provide decent and integrated education facilities for the poor.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of SR is a long-term investment by the government in improving the quality of human resources (HR).
"The construction of this SR is a tangible form of the government's commitment to building superior human resources. The PU Ministry wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality, without neglecting the quality of construction," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Monday, April 27.
The project was carried out by the Ministry of PU through the DIY Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit, with the implementing contractor PT Abadi Karya Pradanaraya using the operation cooperation scheme (KSO) and supervision of PT Ciriajasa Engineering Consultant.
To pursue the completion target, the acceleration of construction is carried out by increasing the number of workers and arranging work in parallel in several construction zones.
The Head of the Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit of DIY, Raden Haryo Satriyawan, said that the number of workers had increased from around 650 people to 840 people and would still be added to reach 925 workers.
"Our acceleration steps are carried out through the addition of labor and work arrangements in several construction zones so that the construction process can run more parallel," he said.
SR Kulon Progo is designed as an integrated education area equipped with various facilities, such as technology-based classrooms, skill laboratories, libraries, digital learning centers, as well as student and teacher dormitories.
In addition, there are also supporting facilities in the form of clinics, healthy canteens, sports fields, extracurricular spaces, and green open spaces.
The PU Ministry hopes that the acceleration of construction can immediately provide decent education facilities and strengthen the equalization of access to education, especially in the Kulon Progo area.
