JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the construction of the Kejawar Embung and Kedunggede Embung in Banyumas Regency, Central Java.

Both embung are now being prepared to support water supply, especially agricultural irrigation as well as helping the community face the dry season.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of water infrastructure such as dams, dams, ponds and reservoirs has a strategic role in maintaining national food security.

"We continue to be committed to building and completing water management infrastructure such as dams, dams, ponds to reservoirs in various areas," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Thursday, April 23.

According to Dody, the presence of this infrastructure is very important to support the availability of irrigation water for agriculture, maintain land productivity and ensure that food supplies are maintained even in the face of drought or climate change challenges.

Embung Kejawar which is located in Kejawar Village has a capacity of 9,534 cubic meters.

Meanwhile, the Kedunggede Embung in Kedunggede Village has a capacity of 18,028 cubic meters.

Both embung serve as water reservoirs to maintain water availability, especially during the dry season.

The existence of the pond also supports the availability of irrigation water to be more maintained, so that it contributes to increasing agricultural productivity and food security in the Banyumas Regency area.

Apart from its main function as an irrigation water provider, the two ponds are also used as public spaces by the community.

Embung Kedunggede is equipped with facilities such as intakes, outlets, guard houses, toilets, and open areas that can be used for community activities.

The Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PU will continue to continue the construction of ponds in various regions of Indonesia as part of efforts to strengthen water and food security sustainably.
