JAKARTA - The Head of the West Papua Infrastructure and Area Planning Office (BPPBK) of the Ministry of PU Corneles Sagrim's Construction Directorate General said the construction of the South West Papua Provincial Government Center has been 100 percent completed.

He explained that the strategic development project with a budget value of more than Rp. 444 billion includes five main activities, namely land development, construction of three main buildings, and support for the drinking water supply system (SPAM) for the new autonomous area (DOB).

"All stages of work have been carried out in accordance with technical standards, including quality testing. This project has also been audited by the BPK," said Corneles as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, April 23.

According to him, the total land released for the central government area reached around 55 hectares.

However, continued Corneles, the current utilization is still below 20 hectares and is focused on the construction of three main buildings, which include the Governor's Office, DPRP, and MRP.

He admitted that land constraints were a challenge, especially for the DPRP complex which only stood on land of around 0.7 hectares.

Meanwhile, the Governor's Office has a land area of approximately 1.7 hectares.

The Governor's Office building is designed to be modern and functional, equipped with a multipurpose room, meeting room, governor and deputy governor work rooms on the third floor, as well as elevator facilities.

The building is able to accommodate up to 300 people at one time.

In addition, security aspects are also a concern with the development of the area at an elevation of more than 8 meters above sea level to anticipate potential flooding.

"The drainage system is also designed to overcome water overflow during heavy rain.

"Although the physical construction has been completed, the inauguration of the government center cannot be carried out in the near future," he said.

The government, he said, is still waiting for the completion of the arrangement of the area, which is currently entering the auction stage.

The arrangement of the area includes the construction of roads, drainage channels, green open spaces, squares, to the main gate.

This area will also be equipped with a multi utility tunnel (MUT), namely an integrated underground channel system for utility networks such as water, electricity, and telecommunications pipes.

"We want all utilities to be neatly arranged underground so that the area looks more modern and orderly," he said.

For full operation of the building, he continued, it is still waiting for electricity supply from PT PLN (Persero) so that facilities such as elevators and other supporting systems can function optimally.

However, Corneles emphasized that the building can in principle be used and is only waiting for the handover process.
