BNI Apologizes to Catholics, Returns Aek Nabara Customer Funds

JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI apologized to Catholics, especially customers of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church Aek Nabara for the case of embezzlement of funds by its former employees.

"BNI also apologizes to Catholics throughout Indonesia, especially the congregation of the Aek Nabara Parish Church, as well as the community for the inconvenience that has occurred so far. We understand the concerns and impacts felt by those affected in this incident," said Director of Human Capital and Compliance BNI, Munadi Herlambang in a press conference at Grha BNI, South Jakarta, Wednesday, April 22.

Munadi said all customer funds had been fully returned to the Aek Nabara Parish Credit Union (CU-PAN), a savings and loan cooperative (KSP) established by the church.

"Today we have good news for all people. The process of returning funds to CU Paroki Aek Nabara customers has been completed," said Munadi.

The total funds returned amounted to Rp. 28,257,360,600, which had previously been embezzled by the former Head of the BNI Cash Office, Aek Nabara, Andi Hakim Febriansyah.

In detail, in the initial stage, BNI has returned Rp7 billion, and today, Tuesday, April 22, 2026, it will disburse the remaining funds of Rp21,257,360,600 to the Aek Nabara Parish Credit Union.

In addition, Munadi hopes that the resolution of this problem can restore public confidence in BNI.

"With the completion of the return of these funds, we hope that public confidence can continue to be maintained. At the same time, this event will serve as a joint learning for all parties. BNI will continue to be committed to providing the best services for the people of Indonesia," said Munadi.

Meanwhile, the Treasurer of the Parish of Aek Nabara, Sister Natalia Situmorang, admitted that he had received a full transfer of funds from BNI today in accordance with the demands submitted by his party.

"Today, with great joy, we have received the settlement of this issue from the BNI institution in full, in accordance with what we wrote in our demand letter," said Natalia.
