JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed full support for the innovation of probiotic chicken feed from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), and is ready to bring it to be presented to President Prabowo Subianto if it meets the target.
"If we can achieve the target, I am ready to bring it to the President, we will buy it. Don't hesitate. This is a great opportunity," said the Minister of Agriculture in response to the results of research from IPB University researcher Ivan Taufik Nugraha who developed probiotic and anti-cooks feed for chickens as support for the downstreaming of livestock.
Amran emphasized that research must be oriented towards real solutions and economic impact.
During his visit to the IPB Science Techno Park, Bogor, Mentan highlighted the great potential for the development of superior chickens based on IPB research, including the acceleration of the growth of native chickens.
"If kampung chicken can be accelerated, for example 30-40 days it is one kilogram, that is extraordinary. This is what we have to pursue," he said.
The Minister of Agriculture also stated the government's readiness to support the commercialization of innovations, including absorbing the results of research on a large scale if it is proven to be successful in the field.
According to him, in this way, researchers can get certainty that every innovation does not stop in the laboratory, but actually exists as a solution for farmers and encourages community welfare.
Meanwhile, IPB University researcher Ivan Taufik Nugraha explained that the feed was designed not only to be more efficient, but also to improve the health of chickens, accelerate growth, and boost egg production.
In addition, the feed innovation developed by him is not only efficient in terms of consumption, but also has a significant impact on the health and productivity of chickens.
"The feed is not too much, one can improve the health of the digestive system. Then the second can increase body weight quickly, and can add mass from chicken eggs. Usually the weight of eggs can increase by 20 to 30 percent," he said.
According to him, one of the main challenges in chicken cultivation is the attack of coccidiosis disease which often causes severe diarrhea to mass death in one cage. For this reason, the research developed is now directed at the formulation of anticoccidial-based feed.
"If per day we are directing it to anticoccidiosis, so as to prevent the chicken from getting sick. Coccidiosis causes severe diarrhea and can cause a high death rate, as well as spread in one cage. With this anticoccidiosis, the health of the chicken can improve," explained Ivan.
Furthermore, innovation also targets the improvement of the performance of native chickens, which are known to have slower growth than race chickens. With the right approach to nutrition, Ivan is optimistic that native chickens can be significantly accelerated in growth.
"The hope is that kampung chickens can increase their body weight faster. So as the Minister said, in 40 days it can reach one kilogram," he added.
Ivan also highlighted the importance of optimizing the chicken's digestive system as the key to increasing productivity. According to him, so far many nutrients are not optimally absorbed, which is marked by a pungent odor in the cage.
"Actually, what we see, when the cage smells, it means that the protein is not absorbed optimally. Well, with the addition of probiotics in our products, more nutrients can be absorbed," he said.
He added that probiotics work down to the level of the intestinal villi, maximizing nutrient absorption and directly impacting feed efficiency and barn environment quality.
"It enters the intestinal villi, then is absorbed. When it comes out, the aroma is reduced because the protein is absorbed to the maximum," said Ivan.
