JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo said the Work From Home (WFH) policy on Friday for State Civil Servants (ASN) was not applied in the Ministry of PU environment because of the nature of the task that requires direct presence.
Dody explained that the PU Ministry is not only tasked with building infrastructure, but also being part of the main team in handling disasters together with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Basarnas, and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), in various regions of Indonesia.
"In (the Ministry) PU, there is actually no WFH, because PU is in addition to building infrastructure, we are also part of the main team when there is a disaster, together with BNPB, Basarnas, and BPBD. Therefore, we decided that we are not WFH," he said, quoting Antara.
With this strategic role, according to him, the physical presence of employees is considered very important so that a response to emergency conditions can be carried out quickly, accurately, and coordinated with all related parties.
Minister PU Dody emphasized that the decision not to implement WFH also applies to all work units, both in the center and in the regions, given the operational needs that do not allow for a remote work system.
The conditions in a number of regions such as Sumatra, including Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, which are still flooded and landslides are the main consideration for not implementing the WFH policy.
He said that there were reports of casualties due to disasters in several areas, which further strengthened the need for the presence of the Ministry of PU to support optimal handling in the field.
"Yesterday there was a landslide and there were also victims in Deli Serdang. So it seems that we, it is not possible for us to WFH," said Minister PU Dody.
Even though he did not implement WFH, he ensured that his ministry continued to carry out President Prabowo Subianto's instructions to work effectively and efficiently in the use of resources and office operations.
Efficiency efforts include reducing the use of electricity and air conditioning after working hours, as well as utilizing natural ventilation in workspaces that allow energy savings.
He hopes that this efficiency step will still make a real contribution to saving the state budget, even though all employees continue to work directly in the office or in the field.
"Hopefully, even though we are not WFH, there is still efficiency that we can provide to the nation and state," said Minister PU Dody Hanggodo.
